Terra Fleurs guided mushroom hunting tours — sometimes called “forays” — offer a unique outdoor hiking experience, to collect edible mushrooms in the Pacific Northwest.
Join one of our outings and learn how to safely identify, gather, and enjoy wild mushrooms. The Puget Sound Basin is the world’s best mushroom habitat, home to over a thousand different fungal species including the best of the edibles. You will be guided by Terra Fleurs’ owner, James Nowak, with over 10 years of experience doing hunting for mushrooms.
What to Expect When Mushroom Hunting
Guests need to provide their own transportation. Forays are day trips, 3 to 4 hours in the forest and 3 to 4 hours of travel time is a typical day. Forays may be canceled due to severe weather conditions or unusual weather patterns. A full refund will be given for cancelled forays.

Where to Meet
Mushroom hunting excursions usually start at 9:00 am at Ba Bar restaurant on South Capitol Hill, a great place to have breakfast before heading out: 550 12th Avenue, Seattle, WA 98122
Other meeting times and places can be arranged. From there we will car caravan to the site. Drive times vary widely, form 1 to 3 hours to the location. We will contact you with specific information before your foray.
Bring a backpack to carry these items:
Food, water and matches or a lighter
Mosquito repellent on spring forays
Camera and other personal items
What to wear while mushroom hunting:
Hiking boots, bring a walking stick
Clothing that covers legs and arms
Rain gear during wet weather

Private (one person) Foray
- A deposit of $74.50 is required to book a tour and is equal to 25% of the total price
Couples Foray
- A deposit of $99.50 is required to book a tour and is equal to 25% of the total price
Group Foray
- A deposit of $34.50 is required to book a tour and is equal to 25% of the total price

Mushroom hunting is seasonal and subject to changing climate and weather patterns. All mushroom species have varying seasons and are dependent on proper conditions for fruiting. Occasionally, there may not be a season at all because of drought or the season may end early due to frost. We cannot make any claims or guarantee that specific mushroom species will be available for collection at any given time due to these factors, however, we do our best to keep you informed if these conditions arise and you are entitled to a full refund or a rescheduled foray should yours be canceled for any reason.
Each guest is required to read then sign three forms to participate in Terra Fleurs Mushroom Forays. Please review both the non-disclosure agreement and the photo-record release form. If you understand and agree to the content contained in each one, then print, sign and bring these with you. Must be 16 years or older.
